Jim Milch, PhD, Director of Research and Innovation, Carestream Health

James R. Milch is Director of the Research and Innovation Laboratories at Carestream Health, Inc. These laboratories are responsible for the discovery and development of new technologies for medical imaging and information management. The labs include research scientists with a broad range of skills. They work closely with other teams in Carestream Health to select the right areas for research and to seamlessly deliver technology into the commercialization process.

Jim received a Ph.D. in Physics (Biophysics) from Princeton University and taught there from 1975 to 1982. He joined Eastman Kodak Company in 1982. His early work at Kodak focused on photographic image digitizing systems, high-performance image processing architectures, and analysis of digital imaging systems. From 1990 to 2007 he led a variety of R&D organizations within Kodak, focusing on imaging science, printing, display, and medical imaging. He has experience in research, product commercialization, and product management.

Dr. Milch holds 17 patents and has written 26 publications, including the chapter on “Image Scanning and Digitization” in Neblette’s Eighth Edition of Image Processing and Materials. He has been active in the Society for Imaging Science and Technology, serving as its President from 2005 to 2007.
